We're home to a lot of great news and good tidings. First, we found ourselves a drummer. His Name is Mike Yaklin and he's a total Wiz with electronics. Secondly, we're finishing up a good number of tracks that we hope to distribute as singles. THIRD, we're starting to announce some shows in the South which'll be followed by a much larger tour in the Spring! Oh, and we've uploaded a new press photo (by our friend Aubrey Edwards). Check it out here!

Jesse's Bed and Breakfast

Michael ran this super-intimate venue down the street from my house called Jesse's Bed and Breakfast that was the center of my world for a few months. A lot of the K Records guys would play there when in town and it seemed to attract latter-day ramblers from all over the country. The night almost always resulted in a dance party where we'd all take turns DJing..

Singing the Sacred Harp
I was really into field recordings in high school, especially those of Sacred Harp choirs. When I heard of a local chapter, I decided to drop in to observe. After finishing the song they'd been singing when I entered, everyone turned and greeted me. It was obvious that I was expected to participate and I had a moment where I very nearly turned and walked out from sheer shyness. They handed me a book and I joined in and was overwhelmed by the intensity of the experience. The floors and walls rang out with harmony, shaking in tune with our voice. I don't get the opportunity to attend as much as I'd like, but every time I do the feeling is the same.

Tour
We'd only played one or two shows before deciding to trek out on tour. Whilst out on the road, our focus grew and we seemed to discover the secret of perpetual motion, generating more energy every night. All the festivals we played in the Fall were really stressful because they didn't fall in the middle of tour and, thus, didn't have the rhythm you get after being on the road for awhile.

A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Scribble Mural Comic Journal
I got really excited about this album right before we went on tour. It made sense with the stuff I was listening to at the time: Disco Inferno, His Name is Alive, Billy Joel's "Laura", The Green Pajamas' "Deadly Nightshade". I love how the vocals take up the same space as the rest of the instrumentation, so that everything equally competes for your attention.

Sunday Brunch
I look forward to breakfast at Seth and Rhonda's all week. I don't get to go as often as I'd like anymore, but when I do it really sets everything right. It's an open call for friends to come together, relax, and be part of a caring community. I've made the band late for trips out of town just so I could take part.

The Octopus Project - Hello Avalanche
When I was in the Octopus Project, I played a number of the songs off this album live. I told my friends at the time that when they finally got around to recording these tunes, it'd be undeniable. They proved me right. That I learned so much from representing these songs live makes it a pretty powerful listen but even without that personal attachment, the record speaks for itself.

Playing Capture the Flag
Even during the worst ice storm in recent memory, we played. Through multiple in-game injuries, too. I really love to play. It burns out all the impurities and your chest fills with heat and you have to lay down from sheer exhaustion and it's awesome, if only for one night a week.

Cryptacize - Dig That Treasure
I don't think this has come out yet but Nedelle and Chris gave us a copy when we played together in Houston. I was blown away by their set. It's really honest, and reminds of a cool Fall night (probably because I first listened to it in October in the van ride out of Houston). Wonderful.

The Sound of Young America
This podcast-now-radio show has consistently interesting guests and maintains a great positivity. You can tell that they really love what they're doing and aren't caught up in trying to be bigger than they really are. Jess and I usually listen to this on road trips which leads me to...

Marfa, TX
Earlier this year, Jess and I drove out to West Texas, visiting Alpine, Marfa, and Marathon along the way. We tried to visit Big Bend but, after realizing that you had to pay some ridiculous price to visit a National Park, turned around. Still, it was easily the best thing I did all year. The weather was so dynamic and we actually got caught in the middle of a torrential hail storm (with me nearly leading us to certain death in an open field during a nasty fit of lightning). The mountains were gorgeous and humbling and I was just really happy to be alive while we were out there.

Oh...

We went into the studio recently to record our contribution to Asthmatic Kitty' s Habitat for Humanity compilation and were so pleased with the sound/environment that we laid down about 6 other tracks! More on that soon. Happy Holidays. Love and Joy.

What in the World?
We made it back from tour and will have all sorts of documentation up very, very soon! Whilst on tour we became aware of the toll booth operator's plight: forced to work in substandard conditions, facing hostile highway warriors who're quick to lay blame with the decent Americans behind the glass. We decided that the situation demanded charity: we gave impromptu performances at most every toll we encountered. Here is our document.
We're gonna play some shows around Texas next month before heading into the studio to work on our first official release! If you've the mind, come see us play. In Austin, we'll be putting together a Fortean Festival/Victorian Pageant at the Mohawk on October 6th that'll knock your socks off!

Wallflowers
Ladies and Gentlemen; I have the esteemed privelege of introducing our new members, Peter, Pablo, and Mary! With their help, we're readying a 7" AND a one minute long cassette-loop single. We'll give more details away as this develops but, suffice it to say, this single will play infinitely on any tape player! We're also booking an East Coast tour for late July/early August (but not before playing a few shows in Texas first!)
Ankles, antlers, and away!
